With the common name of the Blue-banded Bee (although not all bees in this group have blue bands), the name is given to a group of bee species in the genus Amegilla, and are commonly also known as Amegilla Bees.

Pictured here is the species Amegilla chlorocyanea bee. It is a small robust looking bee with a golden-brown head and thorax and eyes that are tinged green. The abdomen is black with blue stripes, although the blue can be very pale, to almost off-white in colour.

Keeps a lookout for these wonderful looking native bees as you walk around observing wildflowers in the gardens, reserves and parks.
