Alice Springs and the surrounding region of Central Australia is home to some marsupials, including kangaroos and wallabies.

Many locals and some visitors are lucky to see them in their own backyard environment, or as they explore the region. Even having a coffee at the Olive Pink Botanic Garden has rewarded some with a closeup of the Euros and Walllabies as they come down from the range to forage.

Marsupials are members of the mammalian infraclass Marsupialia. One of the distinctive characteristics that are common to most of the species of marsupials, is that the young are carried in a pouch. The word marsupial comes from marsupium, a pouch that protects eggs and offspring, or reproductive structures.
