Classified as a weed in Australia, the Rosy Dock was though to have been introduced into Australia along with the camels, being used for feed or accidentally in saddles or packing. It has now become naturalised in many parts of inland Australia, particularly in the semi-arid and arid regions of central Australia.

The Rosy Dock is a fleshy-leafed annual, that is often seen growing throughout the outback after good winter rains. They are also found growing along roadsides, disturbed areas, wasteland, gardens, creek beds, ridges and rocky outcrops.
