Parrots are found mainly in tropical and sub-tropical regions, with some species in arid and semi-arid regions, are of the order Psittaciformes, comprising 92 genera and roughly 398 species.

They are a broad order that includes Macaws, Amazons, cockatoos, corellas, lorikeets, lovebirds, parakeets and rosellas.

The order Psittaciformes is subdivided into three superfamilies: the Psittacoidea (“true” parrots), the Cacatuoidea (cockatoos), and the Strigopoidea (New Zealand parrots).
