Great Southern WAFlora

The Great Southern region of Western Australia is one of those popular destinations for tourists, angler, surfers and locals. Being connected to the coast, it has milder summer weather then the west coast as you go north.

With the unspoilt coastline, idyllic seaside towns and sprawling agricultural lands, the region is located just 4-5 hours southeast of Perth. The region also encompasses the stunning Stirling Range National Park.

The City of Albany encompasses a rural area that surrounds a regional township, with Albany being the administrative and service hub for the Great Southern Region. It also includes the historic Port of Albany, first established in 1826, that served the oldest colonial settlement in Western Australia.

Albany is also home to the Kalgan River and riverboats, making it popular destination for boat cruises, birdwatching and fishing, although to the east of Albany is Dillon Bay (near Bremer Bay), whish is a very popular spot for recreational fishing.

The Great Southern region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia, as defined by the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993, for the purposes of economic development. The Great Southern regions is a section of the larger South coast of Western Australia and the neighbouring agricultural regions.
