The South Coast is a specacular region, said to extend from the Illawarra in New South Wales to the Victorian border and encompasses the areas of Wollongong and Illawarra (south of Sydney), Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and Jervis Bay, Batemans Bay and Eurobodalla (Nature Coast Central), Clyde Coast (with its catchment areas and the Clyde River), Wallaga Lake and Bermagui, Merimbula and the Sapphire Coast (far South Coast). It is a stunning coastline trek, for those heading in either directions through the South Coast.
The South Coast region also encompasses the popular tourist areas of the Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands. Other popular locations within the region include Kangaroo Valley, Berry, Nowra, Jervis Bay, Mollymook / Ulladulla, Bawley Point, Batemans Bay, Bodalla, Central Tilba, Bermagui, Bega, Narooma, Tathra, Merimbula, Eden, and a number of South Coast islands including Barunguba Montague Island.
The NSW South Coast (at the time of writing, 2024), also have 36 national parks, marine reserves and nature reserves that can be enjoyed as you travel from the hinterland, to the coast and out to sea (see current list of South Coast national parks and reserves).
