The beautiful Southern Downs Region is a local government area in the larger Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. Created from a merger of the Shire of Warwick and the Shire of Stanthorpe in 2008, this region of Queensland shares the state boundary with New South Wales.

The Southern Downs, encompassing the Granite Belt region (centred around Stanthorpe) is an amazing region with high country, offering history, art and culture, award-winning wine and much more.

For many visitors to the region and of course many of those who live there, the Southern Downs is home to some amazing flora and fauna. There are a variety of tiny native bee species to reptiles, birds and other beautiful creatures.

Popular locations include Allora, Ballandean, Glen Aplin, Glengallan, Goomburra, Stanthorpe and Warwick, among other attractions.

Check out the Southern Downs & Granite Belt website for more information about the region (details in our Footnote & References).
