Binns Track | Flora & Fauna

The Binns Track is a great four-wheel drive route, that journeys through the Northern Territory, taking you on tour through sandy dunes that can reach eight metres high to rolling plains that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Starting from the SA/NT border up to Timber Creek, the track covers 2,230 km.

From the vast expanses of the northern Simpson Desert’s, through the Davenport National Park and Gregory National Park, with many side route turnoffs and attractions, the Binns Track provides a great taste of all that is to experience in the Northern Territory.

The track is named after Bill Binns, who was a Ranger with NT Parks and Wildlife for 32 years. Bill’s dream was to create a track that allowed tourists to explore regions bursting with colours, native wildlife and mighty rock formations.

As the cooler winter weather warms up into spring, wildflowers can often be seen along this track. Some areas are blanketed in a particular species, whilst other areas have assorted wildflowers growing in swathes.

The track was originally 2,191 km, but has now extended to 2,230 km. You don’t have to do the whole lot in one drive. If you live in Alice Springs you can do sections of it.

The Binns Track offer the photographer a great opportunity for capturing some special images. From the vastness of the landscape to the minutiae of the tiniest details, from mother nature to the historical, come and see the vast central Australia. Come and experience the region at different times of the year, the flora and fauna that reflect the climatic changes and conditions.
