Tucked away in Dee Why in the heart of the northern beaches, is the Stony Range Regional Botanic Garden, an oasis of Australian native plants and a haven to birds and other wildlife.
There are intricate walkways that take visitors through a variety of microclimates. The main circuit walk takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and has been extended to include the accessible sensory track – where people of all abilities can experience the Australian bush. There are signs along the sensory track that point to plants you can touch, taste, smell, and look at, observing and experiencing the garden with all your senses.
As well as a flora haven for Australian endemic plants, the garden provides refuge for wildlife, including birds, reptiles, insects and spiders.
The Stony Range Botanic Garden has several microclimates habitats: the rainforest gully, the sandstone heath, and the lush ecosystem of the Federation Cascades.
Once badly infested with noxious weeds such as lantana and privet, the garden today is a cool oasis populated with cedar, coachwood, ferns, flame trees, hoop pine, lilly pilly and palms.
Jointly managed by the Northern Beaches Council and a wonderful Volunteer Advisory Committee, the garden reserve is famous for its spring floral displays and is a great place for walks, picnics, and functions such as weddings.
Within the garden there is a large undercover area, picnic tables, barbeque and a unisex accessible toilet.
