The Euro is one of four subspecies of the Wallaroo or Common Wallaroo (Osphranter robustus). Whilst the others subspecies include the Eastern Wallaroo (O. r. robustus) Barrow Island Wallaroo (O. r. isabellinus), Kimberley Wallaroo (O. r. woodwardi), the Euro found here in Alice Springs is Osphranter robustus erubescens.

The Euro is the arid-zone sub-species of the most widespread of the kangaroo group and is also known as the Western Wallaroo (O. r. erubescens) or Hills Wallaroo. Quite common here in Central Australia. It is variable, although mostly brown in colour. Some of the Euro seen in Central Australia (in the hills region in and around Alice Springs have the reddish brown colouration.

Euros have a large naked rhinarium (this being the hairless skin area that surrounds the opening of the nostrils), giving them a dark “button nose” appearance. They also have large rounded ears.
