Lasioglossum (Homalictus)Lasioglossum (Homalictus) on Eucalyptus orbifolia Lasioglossum (Homalictus) dotatum Lasioglossum (Homalictus) urbanum

The subgenus Homalictus, in the genus Lasioglossum, subfamily Halictinae of the family Halictidae are a prevalent group of bees in Australia.

Whilst Homalictus is sometimes regarded to be a full genus, studies have shown that Homalictus is embedded within Lasioglossum, forming a clade with other Australian members of the genus.

A clade in biology, refers to a group of organisms that consists of a common ancestor and all of its descendants. Because clades consist of all the modern descendants of a common ancestor, clades they are considered monophyletic.

At time of writing, the subgenus Lasioglossum (Homalictus) contains over 150 species (refer to iNaturalistAU below)1.

Pictured here is a deceased Lasioglossum (Homalictus), retrieved from a swimming pool in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
