This bee (rescued from a salt-water swimming pool in Alice Springs), belongs to a small family of bees found only in Australia — family Stenotritidae, probably genus Stenotritus. Once the bee dried out, it flew off.

The stenotritids (family Stenotritidae) are large, densely hairy and fast-flying bees. They have unmodified mouthparts. They make simple burrows in the ground and firm, ovoid provision masses in cells lined with a waterproof secretion.
