Endemic to Australia, the Yellow-throated Miner (Manorina flavigula) is seen here in Alice Springs. Also known as the White-rumped Miner, this name comes from its distinctive white rump.

A medium-sized, grey passerines, the Yellow-throated Miner is grey above from the crown to the tail. They have yellow throat markings and bare yellow patch around the eye. They are pale grey below and have a light brown scalloping on the breast. The wings and tail edges are washed yellow, whilst the tail tips are white. The beak varies in colour from orange to yellow. The legs and feet are also variable from a pink-orange to yellow.

They are found in a wide range of habitats, especially where there are trees. They are also seen in urban parks, reserves, gardens, and will even invite themselves to your table at an open air cafe or restaurant.

Although they are honeyeaters, the main component of their diet are insects and other invertebrates. You will often see them probing beneath loose bark and among foliage in trees and the leaf litter on the ground. They also eat small fruits and nectar.
