The wonderful Spinifex Pigeon (Geophaps plumifera) is a small crested pigeon with rusty/bluff coloured plumage and a tall bluff coloured upright crest. They have black and buff crescentric bars on the upper parts of the body and wings and a conspicuous red patch across the eyes.
A ground feeding pigeon, their habitat is usually in spinifex, arid and semi-arid desert habitats, rocky ranges, gorges, hilly sandy ridge regions. Here in Alice Springs you have great chance to see wild ones running around and foraging as you walk around the Alice Springs Desert Park.
