Grass Trees (Xanthorrea spp) > Desert Grass Tree (Xanthorrhoea thorntonii)

The Desert Grass Tree (Xanthorrhoea thorntonii) is the only grass tree native to Central Australia, and found in regions that include the MacDonnell Ranges, Great Sandy Desert and the Great Victoria Desert.

Common name
Include Desert Grasstree, Cundeelee Grasstree, Cundeelee Blackboy, Yacka and just grasstree. The Pitjantjatjara people have a number of names including kata-kultu, kata-puru, ulpa and urara. The Warlpiri people know them as yurlurnkuru and the Arrernte as lunkere.
