A member of the family Erebidae (erected by George Hampson in 1926), the species Eudesmeola lawsoni was first described by Felder and Rogenhofer in 1874. It is commonly found in the arid inland regions of Australia, although Atlas of Living Australia have listed observations around Australia, including Tasmania.

We assume it is the same moth found deceased a couple of days later less then a metre from where it was originally seen within an apartment.
