Where there is water in Central Australia, you are quite likely to see dragonflies. With the many swimming pools, fish ponds and bird baths around Alice Springs, it is something to behold when our local dragonflies make themselves known.

We were lucky to capture these images of the Scarlet Percher (Diplacodes haematodes) and the Blue Skimmer (Orthetrum caledonicum) around the swimming pool and fish pond in one of the Alice Springs gardens.

Whilst the garden had a large swimming pool, the dragonflies were flitting around the bird bath and fish pond. We were lucky that these dragonflies hung around for us to observe and to capture these photos.

You can check out more info on the Scarlet Percher and Blue Skimmer.
