Alice Springs Ants (Formicidae)Camponotus novaehollandiae group

— see Formicidae | Alice Springs Bees | Beetles | Insects

Central Australia is home to a variety of ant species belonging to the family Formicidae. An important part of the ecological balance of nature, some ant species are also known to become a pest when they invade places they are not wanted, such as our homes.

With an estimate of some 6,500 species of ants in Australia alone, of which only one-fifth have been described, ants are found throughout a variety of our terrestrail habitats, including the arid regions.1
