The Broad-leaf Drumsticks (Isopogon anemonifolius) belong to a group of plants known commonly as “drumsticks”, which comes from the shape of the fruiting cone.
Broad-leaf Drumsticks grows to 2 m high. Re-sprouts after fire from a lignotuber.
Leaves
flat and about 5-10 cm long, usually divided into 3 segments, again divided and lobed near tip. The younger leaves become red in the cooler months.
Flower
rounded flower heads terminating the branches. Yellow, in terminal sessile rounded heads about 4 cm in diameter. Flowers in spring and summer. Rounded fruit/cone found on the shrub at all times of the year, measuring up to 2 cm across. The common name “drumsticks” is in reference to the cone.
Found
occurs on coast and tablelands in New South Wales, south-eastern Queensland and eastern Victoria. Usually on sandstone, but also on granite in heath to dry sclerophyll forest. Related to Grevilleas and Banksias.
