Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds
A bright yellow-orange coloured small ground song bird endemic to Australia, the Orange Chat (Epthianura aurifrons), is a desert nomad species found in the drier inland regions. They are found in areas of samphire and saltbush. The males of the species often have a pot-bellied shape appearance, a black mask and short slender straight bill (you can see some photos of the male Orange Chat taken at the Alice Springs Desert Park).
Pictured here is the female chat of the species. The female Orange Chat are a paler yellow, and do not have the black mask. They have a pale yellow eyebrow, whitish throat and mottled grey-brown streaking on the breast, with the underparts being a soft fawny yellow.
The photographs presented here were taken in the months of May and July.
