Alice Springs Desert Park
One of the brightly coloured Australian desert birds, the Orange Chat (Epthianura aurifrons) is endemic to Australia.
A small ground song bird, the Orange Chat is pot-bellied in shape, with thin legs, a short slender straight bill and a brush-tipped tongue. The male bird has feathers that are a deep, cadmium yellow with orange overtone, particularly on the crown and breast. The males’ lores and throat are black, whilst their rump is a golden orange with a tail finely tipped with white. The female chats are mottled in grey-brown and whose underparts are soft fawny yellow.
