Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds
The Little Crow (Corvus bennetti) are found in the inland arid region, ranging from western and central Australia. Often seen in small country towns, these ones were photographed at the Alice Springs Sewage Ponds. Like all our corvids, they require access to water for their daily needs.
Their range overlaps with the Australian Raven, and are easily distinguished on their call. When the Little Crow are seen alongside Torresian Crows and Little Ravens, they can be harder to tell apart. The Torresian Crows are usually larger, but small Torresian Crows are also known, and in this case the bulky bill of the Torresian Crow help in identification between the two species, as the Little Crow have a bill that is visibly shorter then the length of their head. The Little Crow also have the white bases to the neck and head feathers, that can seen when strong wind ruffles their feathers.
The photographs presented here were taken in the month of June.
