Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds
The Plumed Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna eytoni), is also known as the Grass Whistling Duck, is a striking looking long necked duck, shades of brown in colour with characteristic cream-colored plumes arising from its flanks. Both sexes are similar in appearance.
The range of the Plumed Whistling-Duck is eastern, northern and central Australia from the Kimberley across the Top End and Cape York, down to southern Queensland, northern east coast of New South Wales and inland of north-western Victoria inland.
They are often found in tall grassland and savanna habitat, that is near bodies of water. The Plumed Whistling-Duck feed by cropping grass on land.
