Belonging to the genus Agrimomyia, is species Agriomyia maculata. The genus is part of a group known as Thynnid Wasps, from the family Tiphiidae, subfamily Thynninae, whose common name include Tiphiid Flower Wasp, Yellow Flower Wasp and Hairy Flower Wasp.
The species pictured was rescued from a saltwater pool in Alice Springs. This male took its time drying itself off, before flying away.
