Agrotis munda, common name Brown Cutworm Moth. is a noctuid moth that is endemic to Australia. The moth have a complex grey-brown pattern on the forewings. The hindwings are white to cream (some with brown panel lines). The wingspan is approximately 30-40 mm. When at rest Agrotis munda holds its wings like a tent over its body.
The Agrotis munda larvae or caterpillars, are greyish-green to brown in colour and darken as they mature, growing to a length of about 5 cms. The caterpillars, are found at the ground-level foliage of various plants, where they feed nocturnally, staying close to the soil surface, where they hide, during the day. They feed on a variety of herbaceous plants, including many of the agricultural crops such as lucerne, cotton, maize and tobacco (which unfortunately make them a pest species for many crop farmers.
