Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds
The Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis), also known as the Little Greenshank, is a pale slender sandpiper with a fine bill. It is a wader that have long and slender greenish to yellowish legs. When in flight they appear dark above with broad white stripe up the middle of the back and has long legs that project past the tip of the tail.
In breeding plumage, it is greyish brown, and paler in winter.


Usually seen singly, pairs or small groups, and sometimes with other waders in fresh to brackish wetland habitats, with open water. They feed by wading in water, picking with its bill.
A migratory species, Marsh Sandpiper usually winter in Africa and India, with some migrating to southeast Asia and Australia.
