Sydney Tower is one of the well known landmark that rises above the city skyline. On a clear day, the tower can be seen 80 km away, from the Blue Mountains. Whilst there are a number of other high rises around it, Sydney Tower still remains a prominent and visual tourist attractions in Sydney City.

The height of Sydney Tower from the bottom to the tip of the spire is 309 metres. Tourists to the towers can experience the Skywalk, which is also known as ‘Sydney’s Highest Outdoor Adventure’. Here visitors can experience walking on air at the highest outdoor viewpoint (268 m) in Sydney. There are three double deck lifts that provide access to the Sydney Tower Eye Observation Deck and restaurants.

Being the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, Sydney Tower belongs to an exclusive group of structures known as the ‘World Federation of Great Towers’.

Now known as Sydney Tower Eye, the tower has and is still referred to by some of its other names from over the years including Centrepoint Tower, Sydney Tower, AMP Tower, Westfield Centrepoint Tower and Sydney Skytower.

The tower was conceived in 1968 by the architect Donald Crone, whose first designs were reputedly scribbled on the back of a napkin. Construction work began in 1970, with the first series of shops opening in 1972. The office component was completed in 1974, with the final stage of the complex, the Sydney Tower, opened to the public in September 1981.
