Nicknamed “The Coathanger”, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge, that spans Sydney Harbour from the central business district (CBD) on the south side to the North Shore. The southern end of the bridge is located at Dawes Point in The Rocks area, and the northern end at Milsons Point on the lower North Shore.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, together with the nearby Sydney Opera House, located on the Sydney Harbour is one of those iconic images that conjures up Sydney and Australia and used endlessly in commercial and tourism promotions.
Because of its arch-based design, the bridge carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
