Sometimes, one takes photos just for the hell of it… and you continue on to where-ever you were going. So when you look back through the photos, you are pleasantly surprised… and to realise that Sydney is a city of escalators…

Following is the Station Dome in Wynyard Park and the escalator down to Wynyard Station (access from the east side of Wynyard Park in Sydney NSW).

Some other trivia:

  • Central Station to house the Southern Hemisphere’s longest escalators.
the project includes 42 escalators, which when put end to end, makes the escalators 955 metres.
  • Sydney’s Moving Walking (also known as a Travelator) – the longest moving walkway in the Southern Hemisphere is at The Domain. It passes through a tunnel under The Domain, linking The Domain Car Park near Woolloomoloo Bay, to College Street and the northern end of Hyde Park.

In the following photo is the striking sculptural artwork titled Interloop, 2017 by artist Chris Fox. Using the original wooden 1930s OTIS escalator treads in a kilometre of welding, this sculptural artwork hovers above the York Street escalators of Sydney’s heritage-listed Wynyard railway station.

From the escalators in the QVB, you can look down on some of the magnificent heritage tiles that can seen, as well as look up at the magnificent two clocks at both ends of the QVB, including the Great Australian Clock.
