Orchidaceae (Orchids) >

Commonly known as the Banded Greenhood or Green-banded Greenhood Orchid, Pterostylis vittata, is an orchid endemic to the south-west of Western Australia.

When not in flower, the orchid have a rosette of leaves on a short stalk or stem leaves on a flowering spike. When it does flower, the orchid has up to twenty five flowers that are translucent green with darker green stripes.

Note that the labellum is still down on the following set of orchids, ie they havn’t been pollinated yet. Once pollinated, the labellum flips up, or if you bump the orchid it will flip up too, but will reset in half an hour or so.

In the following beautiful and rare variegated albino specimen of Pterostylis vittata, that were open amongst the other albinos in this unique colony that are still in bud and at various stages of growth.
