The cockroach pictured here, belong to the genus Johnrehnia, in the family Blattellidae, or possibly an undescribed related genus). It is a native cockroach, with the ootheca (egg-case).
An ootheca (plural oothecae) describes an egg mass, that is produced by several different groups of insects, including cockroaches. The oothecae (with the protective outer covering) contain many eggs.
Whilst some cockroaches attach their oootheca to grasses or twigs and others lay them and leave them to hatch on the ground, other cockroaches carry their ootheca, like the one pictured here, until the young are ready to hatch.
