Pandorea doratoxylon is a woody scrambler / climber vine-like shrub that is endemic to Australia.
The leaves are mostly opposite, with adult leaves about 8-16 cm long, mostly 3-9 foliolate, leaflets linear to ovate. The inflorescences are 5-15 cm long, calyx 3-5 mm long, corolla 1-2.5 cm long. Whitish in colour, with purplish blotches or stripes in the throat. Bearded inside the corolla and glabrous (lacking surface hairs – smooth) outside.
Found across Australia in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory.
Common name
Spearwood, Western Wonga Vine. The Arrernte name is Uyenpere (pronounced: oo~YIN~pa~ra).
The shafts of the Spearwood were used as spears by local aboriginal people. The wood was straightened by heating and bending over a fire.
