Drosophila melanogaster is a species of fly (in the family Drosophilidae), that is often called the fruit fly, but more correctly termed the vinegar fly. There are a number of other common names including lesser fruit fly, pomace fly, or banana fly. It is a fly that feeds on yeast. They have a red-brown eye colour.
