Odontomyia hunteri is an Australian species of soldier fly (family Stratiomyidae), that was named after James Hunter, surgeon on the Mermaid (1826), a cutter ship that was used to survey and explore parts of the Australia coastline.
Current observations of Odontomyia hunteri are mainly along the east coast of Australia from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
