The ponds in the Chinese Garden of Friendship attract native damselflies such as the Common Bluetail Damselfly (Ischnura heterosticta).
The Common Bluetail is a small damselfly. It is the males that usually have blue eyes, a blue thorax, and a blue ringed tail. The female damselfly come in a variety of forms that include green, brown, black, and a blue form that is similar in colouring to the male damselfly of the species.
