The Native Violet (Viola banksii) is a perennial ground covers with flowers held up on a tall stems, above the heart shaped green leaves. The flower is white with purple mauve markings.
It is found growing across the coastal areas of New South Wales and south-east Queensland spreads, spreading by underground runners. It grows well beneath shrubs and trees, shaded spots and along creeks and in other damp areas.
The Native Violet (Viola banksii) name is derived from the Latin viola, for the violet colour and banksii, after Sir Joseph Banks.
