Gold Coast WaspsStick-nest Brown Paper Wasp (Ropalidia revolutionalis)
The Stick-nest Brown Paper Wasp (Ropalidia revolutionalis), also known as the Stick Brown Paper Wasp is one of the smaller paper wasps and fairly common down the east coast of Australia.
They are one of the smallest species of paper wasps in Australia and are a dark reddish-brown in colour, with darker band on the abdomen.
They are a diurnal (active during the day) social wasp of the family Vespidae, that are known for the distinctive nest combs, that are built each spring. The nest consist of several combs, each about 100 mm long with two columns of cells that hang down.
Whilst they are not considered aggressive, they will sting if they or their nest is disturbed.
