The unmistakable eyes of Megachile aurifrons… From the latin “aurum” meaning gold (and if you remember high school chemistry, why the chemical symbol for gold is Au) and “frons” simply meaning front (or brow when used in relation to an animal).

She’s one of the “resin bees”, one of many I’ve had the pleasure of watching raise her family in my BeeTown, but what I really love about seeing her again is that for me, here in Midwest WA, she marks the beginning of a whole new array of native bees about to emerge… 🙂
