Megachile punctata are a large black bee, with dark wings and white hairs covering T6. They have dense white hairs on the sides and rear of the thorax and four small white hair patches behind the scutum.

The female of the species are about 13 mm in length whilst the male is about 10-13 mm in length.

The female features include white facial hair and white abdominal scopa. The male has bright orange facial hairs and forelegs not modified.
