Megachile semiluctuosa is a member of a cosmopolitan group of so called “solitary bees”, belonging to the genus Megachile, one of the largest genera of bees, containing 56 subgenera, encompassing 1,520 recognised species.
This species of bee occurrence has been mapped on both the east and west side of mainland Australia.2
