Kimsooja is a conceptual artist. Her works encompasses many elements of art, spanning installation, sculpture, performance and moving image.

In ‘Archive of mind’, Kimsooja invites the visitor to collect a handful of clay and sit at the large work surface. Emptying your mind from all distraction, to then sink into the experience of forming a ball of clay in your hands. The process of rolling and wrapping the clay into itself, being like that of an infinite bottari.

With ‘Archive of mind’, Kimsooja invites visitors to collect a handful of clay, sit at the large work surface, and empty their minds of distraction; to sink into the experience of forming a ball of clay between the hands, rolling and wrapping it into itself like an infinite bottari.

A painter and philosopher, the artist invites us to share and experience her work. A bottari means bundle in Korean.

We always keep bottari, which means bundle in Korean, in our family, to keep things and protect them or to put aside in attic, or to carry from one place another. Also in Korea, “making a bundle” (when it refers to women) means leaving the family—that is, the woman leaves her own family to pursue her own life.

This installation and experience, evokes many things. With its association to mobility and migration, it invites you to delve deep into your psyche, as you create your own world, placing it on the space before your, evoking a planet among many.
