It is sad sometimes to see what gets washed up onto a beach after an ocean storm. Pictured here from the family of porcupinefish is the Three-bar Porcupinefish (Dicotylichthys punctulatus), sometimes spelt Threebar Porcupinefish. It is a species of porcupinefish that is endemic to the east coast of Australia, often found in coastal and offshore reef environments down to 50 m deep.

This species grows to 40 cm in standard length, although most only reach 18 cm. The stranded porcupinefish pictured here was approximately 28-30 cm in length.
