A perfect morning at ‘the ponds’, cool and crisp with the sun just over the ranges. No wind, good company and I hadn’t been to the “Poo Ponds” for a while.
What’s that on the windsock, I’ll check it out, then I seen white with black plumage.
In my wisdom I thought, ‘creep up on this bird, it won’t notice you, it’s only got 360 degree vision’. Duh!!
Up on the windsock sat an immature Black-shoulder Kite, so I crept… inched my way along, hoping that walking away from it, the bird wouldn’t notice me!! Double Duh!!
I became invisible, my face behind the camera, slowly as I inched along, capturing the odd photo, click, click, click.
WOW what was that, the Black-shouldered Kite up on tippy talons wings open and I could see it’s beak wide open!! Oh, a Crow had decided to come and harass my quarry. ‘Don’t fly away just yet, stay a while longer ‘I said to myself.
Again, the Kite, wings and beak wide open, up on it’s talons again, gosh it’s a Mudlark this time.
The camera in overdrive, click, click, click.
After what seemed ages but only moments in real time, the Black-shouldered Kite flew away. Now what else is there to get carried away photographing, the morning has just began.
