The first line from that song popped into my head (I am showing my age now)…
I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon…
Well, that was not quite true… I was just taking a small breather from work, but it sure was a hot afternoon… when something caught my eye, struggling in the pool. It was a glint of yellow and on a closer look, I could see it was a native bee… struggling to escape out of the water surface tension, sending out ripples like an SOS.
Without a moments though, I scooped my hand in to lift the wee creature out… and instantly (she must have been grateful), she looked up at me and slowly walked up my finger…
She was beautiful… with her dark black eyes, yellow mask eye-liner and gorgeous maroon-red body… then another couple of lines from that song came to mind…
I sure do want you to know that you wear it well…
There ain’t a lady in the land so fine
She slowly walked up my finger and preened herself dry… and I knew
Anyway, my coffee’s cold and I’m getting told
That I gotta get back to work…
Whilst preening herself, she appeared to turn her head a couple of times, to give me that look and if she could smile, I guess she was smiling… then just as sudden she was gone…
But I ain’t forgetting that you were once mine
For those from my era… you would know who sang that song… but to help you young ones… the singer was Rod Stewart 😀
