Variable Stropis (Stropis nigrovitellina) in the subfamily Catantopinae (Spur-throated Grasshoppers).
Note: this species has a white stripe (or stripes) on top of the head and pronotum.
The other species in the Central Australia (S. maculosa) does not have this white sripe.
The Stropis nigrovitellina pictured here, was photographed on a Solanum sp (host plant) in the Alice Springs Desert Park and is missing one hind leg.
