The Native Cockroach (Elipsidion australe ) is striking looking bush cockroach. The one pictured here was found in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

Many native cockroaches are found feeding on pollen in shrubs, trees and other flowering plants. The one here was feeding on the pollen of the Ponytail Palm. Other bush cockroaches are found feeding on bark and leaf matter. Some species in the genus Panesthia have adapted to eating decomposing wood, they have similar micro-organisms in their gut as found in termites (Order Isoptera).
