A small bird of the arid inland region of Australia, the iconic Painted Finch (Emblema pictum) are found in rocky gorges and hills, and usually not far from water.
The eye-catching bright red face, throat and belly of the male Painted Finch (Emblema pictum) is a sight to behold. The female have red around the eye, and whilst both sexes have the white spotted flanks, it is the female that tends to be more spotted. The upper feathers are a olive-brown.
