Southern Downs MarsupialsWallabia bicolor

The only living member of the genus Wallabia, Wallabia bicolor is also known commonly as the Swamp Wallaby and the Black Wallaby. It is a small macropod marsupial found along eastern Australia in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and south-eastern South Australia. It is an introduced species in New Zealand.

This Swamp Wallaby has distinct colour variation, that includes the typical grey coat of the macropods and varied with a dark brown to black areas on the back, a light rufous orange on the chest. It has a light coloured cheek stripe, with a darker colouring on the extremities of the body. The tip of the tail is often white.
