Gold Coast MarsupialsEastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus)

When we talk about marsupials, some of the most popular species that come up in conversation include the koala and the kangaroos. Of course there are many more (that can be seen throughout this website), including the wallabies and the wombats.

Marsupials are members of the mammalian infraclass Marsupialia and one of the distinctive characteristics that are common to most of the species, is that the young are carried in a pouch. The word marsupial comes from marsupium, a pouch that protects eggs and offspring, or reproductive structures.
