Arids Lands Botanic Garden boardwalk and lookout - Arids Lands Botanic Garden

A unique botanic garden, known for the harsh and stark beauty of the unrelenting landscape that surrounds it.

Commanding fantastic views of the ancient Flinders Ranges, this arid garden showcases a range of arid zone environments across more than 200 hectares. It is home to a number of unique plants and animals and the garden includes over 12 km of walking racks, a visitor centre, interpretive displays, Australia’s largest Eremophila garden, and cafe.

Take your time to browse the gardens, keep your eyes peeled for the wildlife, enjoy the guided and self-guided tours and get some local refreshments in the cafe.

The projection sundial indicates the time and the date using a bright spot of sunlight projected through a hole in a metal plate. The bright spot of sunlight moves around a figure 8 shaped path (known as an Analemma) for any particular fixed clock hour as the sun’s position varies throughout the year.

Arid Lands Botanic Garden Tours

Guided Tour • Held during April-October (11:00 am) and November-March (9:30 am)
These conducted tours are held Monday to Friday and last for 1 hour. Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour begins. A hat and strong footwear is recommended. Large groups by appointment. There is a fee, with 80% of the tour fee committed to the further development of the garden itself. Contact the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden for full details.
